As my thoughts of Squatching continue to evolve I have felt it nessicary to restart ISRIN as some of the original concepts haven’t gone as hoped. So it reopens, and the original premise, being an alternative to the Research Group/Online Forum crowd. Since the opening of the first Iteration of ISRIN, I have become even more convinced of the need for an alternative, given politics and the sadder sad of Bigfootery as it’s called. By this I refer to the bickering, agendas and misplaced competition to solve the mystery that is Sasquatch. The fact is the mystery continues to elude us and that is something I need to remind myself when you witness the drama that comes from this competition. I actually find the notion funny, since anyone may trip over the Holy Grail of the creature under any circumstances. If there was some tried and true method to find and document, kill, capture or otherwise confirm the creature I dare say it would have happened by now. It hasn’t, so the one seemingly never ending Op-ED to Bigfootery is for everyone to get over themselves and realize that no one knows anything more than anyone else, even the alleged experts.
Another hotspot of the drama seems to stem from the existing evidence. Of this evidence we are referring to the Patterson Gimlin film, the Memorial Day Footage, the Skookum Cast, and The Jacobs photos among others. Each of these has offered the chance for continuing “debate”, but in the end, the common truth is that none of these things have proven squat. In this writer’s humble opinion:
PGF (Patty Gimlin Film): Is simply too old, too picked over to ever gain any ground as being a definitive piece of evidence. It will always be ripe for debate but in the end, the Holy Grail it isn’t.
Memorial Day Footage: Any version of this that I have seen is too pixilated to really tell what it is. I am forced to express surprise that this “evidence” gets the attention that is does.
The Skookum Cast: This is another testy example, from past experience this is generally held by most with a discerning mind to be an Elk Lay. Some of the nastier recent debates I’ve had on subject lead to blind faith in the credentials of the “Experts”; Meldrum, etc as a counter to the greatest likelihood, that it is in fact an Elk lay and wishful thinking.
The Jacobs Photo: An offering of an alleged creature from Pennsylvania, amongst bear cubs, and it looks like a bear. It is in all likely a bear.
The Point of this is simply the existing evidence that we have isn’t cutting it for those who want the credit for solving the puzzle. It makes them look bad in fact, offering up wishing thinking and the like as evidence. We’ll need to do better and the best suggestion that I can offer is get out there and look for it yourself.
